The Civil War was a war between two racist white supremacist cultures. One a Capitalistic industrial culture that mistreated its workers before, during, and after the Civil War. The other a chattel slave culture of lynching, whipping and other abuse.

After the war, black Americans did not do much better and still did not get the same rights as whites anywhere in America and both the Northern and Southern Americans finished committing genocide on Native Americans.

The preamble to the constitution laid it out perfectly, for "ourselves" (land owning white males) and our posterity, (land owning white male children). The Confederacy deserved all of the criticism it gets for what it was, but no part of white culture save a true real abolitionist gets a pass historically.
