The bottom line with the Civil War is it was fought by two white supremacist upper caste over ownership and dollars. Slavery, workers rights, child labor, women's rights, etc all represented someone's wealth. Typical Capitalism.

Neither side had a higher ground than the other. The Northern side that won the war had an opportunity to truly help the freed slaves but instead there was another hundred years of terror for black people.

The legacy of white supremacy is still alive and well also. It is one of the reasons just about every group foreign or domestic can get some form of reparations but black Americans.
