The American flag is as racist and bigoted as the Confederate flag and flew over slavery longer. After the war the American government allowed states to fly the Confederate flag in protest and build Lost Cause statues in their towns without a peep.

After slavery the American flew over segregation and did little to help black Americans until 1964, and that came with a huge fight. It flew over child labor, women not voting. It flew over LGBTQ abuse until recently in our history.

We should ditch it and vote on a new one like the state of Mississippi did. I still agree with the spirit of your article, though. Few things are worse than red necks, Neo-Confederates, or the Qanon cult.
