Sorry, Rich Men North of Richmond is More of The Same
Don’t be fooled into thinking this song is not just more lost cause mythology
Oliver Anthony may not have meant the lyrics of his song to be a Neo-Confederate anthem, but it is full of Neo-Confederate gripes. In my view, most country music appeals to bad thinking, ignorance, misogyny, and racism even if it is not always obvious. Most country fans love Trump and vote Republican, so I admit, I have never liked most country music, nor am I very tolerant of those who listen to it. All you have to do is look at the titles of the songs, and see the reaction of the fans. Don’t believe me:
