No one is saying today's police are the exact same as slave catchers. What is being said, is today's police got their start that way and other ways and that they were never set up to protect citizens but to be the long arm of government and protect the assets of middle and upper class. I assume you have read, Steinbeck Travel's with Charlie?

This is old history and how something starts can inject that original spirit throughout the life of an organization. American cops have always struggled dealing with black people, and poor people fairly. What is not rational is refusing to look at the history of something and seeing similarities of attitude and outcome.

Slander indicates something that is not true being spread. Most of what is being claimed can be backed up by examples and statistics. Cops in American use their gun too often and for the wrong reason. They are instilled with a power complex and it shows in the cover up of bad cops by supposed good cops. The goal is equity in treatment, not slander.

America could easily afford higher pay for police along with higher educational requirements and a different status as public protectors, but instead they keep things they way they have been. Things do not change until people protest in mass.
