Most men who grew up with firearms over 35 years ago are very safe with them and not emotional because they were trained properly. The problem has been the gun culture of the last 30 years that is much different than how gun ownership looked over 35 years ago. I remember my principle looking at a shotgun in the back of a students car who was on his way to a Dove hunt after school. We rarely heard about school shootings.

There was a time when no sportsperson would be caught dead with a military style rifle unless they competed in events. Pistols were for entering the wood, or self defense and no big deal was made about them. Most gun owners were not that interested in pistols back then. Once the Evangelicals almost made gun ownership synonymous with being a Christian and an American we started getting the crazies we see today.

There are fathers who take their twelve year old children out to shoot at photos of the latest terrorist which tells a kid shooting the right people is fine and a solution. Parents used to teach their children to avoid conflict with a firearm if possible. The Boy Scouts used to teach this.

The problem with men vs women carrying guns is few women see violence as a solution to things as a large percentage of men do. Enjoyed the article.
