I have never looked at them as historically accurate films. Just mythical films with a backdrop of historical references and names. Two of those you mentioned mentioned are excellent films. No one that appreciates filmmaking would argue. What I always though was funny is no one picked up on the fact that, "Apocalypto," was a rip off of, the 1965 film, "The Naked Prey." It even had the snake bite scene in it. In my view the only complete dog Mel Gibson ever produced was, "The Passion of the Christ." For all the money it made, I felt like it was close to a B movie.
