I hate to mildly disagree with you because I enjoy your writing, and I agree with you much of the time.
I am an anti-Capitalist so Musk is not hero of mine. Damn sure not Trump, his supporters, conservatives, or Christians. My issue with lamenting what Musk is doing is Twitter already censored who they wanted based on their personal preference, just as Musk is deciding to undo some of that.
This is a business platform, the public uses, not a public platform paid for by tax dollars the public has a say in. The public can use it or not use it. The idea Facebook, YouTube, or Twitter are platforms ordinary folks use is mistaken in my view since they choose to censor based on their own whim, and many of the ordinary folks would be people you would not agree with, but who should still also have a voice if a free society is the goal.
Some can sell it anyway they want, but censorship is based in fear. Fear that a narrative they believe in will be questioned and it will upset their plans. Truth will stand on its own. It should not fear morons. Morons can cause setbacks, but that is the price of egalitarianism.
Musk is acting how all rich people act. There is no such thing as a good rich person when it comes to the public. All social media is owned by rich folk and all of them are Capitalistic ventures. We are not a Democracy either, we are an Oligarchy owned by the similar rich folk who own social media.
I agree with your article overall, and suggestions to get ready to use other platforms, but the problem is, if they are successful they too will be owned and run by rich assholes. No true capitalist gives a shit about Democracy, or the people. Only money and more.
The basis of Capitalism is ownership and if possible a monopoly. To believe Musk is clever enough to destroy the Twitter platform would give the possibility that Trump is clever enough to have destroyed the Republican Party on purpose. Maybe your are right. If so, that would be a scary thought.
