I doubt belief in a higher being will ever go anywhere, but organized religion has been a bane of human existence. It is possible for believers organizing, collecting money, and influencing society with their nutty beliefs to be outlawed by thinking society.

Believe as you will, but as soon as religion attempts to force in on society in the way of blasphemy laws, sodomy laws, abortion, education, which days to close business, and even influencing speech, the rest of us have a right to fight it and attempt to defeat it.

Religion nor atheist have proof for their claims. Since God doesn't seem to be able to speak for itself but requires human third parties to speak on its behalf the world may never know. It will be a continual struggle.
