Around the time that dominance-based hierarchies started to replace more egalitarian social systems, not only did women come under the control of fathers and husbands for the first time, but other class systems began to arise. These consisted of things like gross wealth disparity, as well as other types of power imbalance — all maintained by coercion and even violence. Today things like racism, homophobia, and xenophobia are all manifestations of a patriarchal dominance hierarchy system.
