Because we have been in almost continual war since the end of WWII. I'm not concerned about Russia, they have their horrible track record, and so does America, China, and other nations.

I am not anti-military in that we need one to protect our borders from invasion etc. However, I do not believe in a large professional army or the spending my country does on it nor do I worship the military as many in my country do.
